3:10a - Researching from Attaturk to Zarqawi
A little cinnamon works wonders for a cup of coffee, but for late night working, minted green tea and bourbon creams are fine, especially in half-light. I'd take a photo for you, only, as I discovered a few hours previous, my camera has deterioated to the state where it takes me ten minutes of effort simply for it to turn on for thirty seconds. With Fresher's Week being next week, I'm a little saddened by the prospect of having no camera (well, I have two, but they're both being silly. The other refuses to believe the batteries in it are charged. Why is it always batteries?)

I think I'd be better at this research assignment if I wasn't so interested in things. I need to know things to be able to research them, but the knowledge of the knowing far exceeds that required for the research. For example, I'm to cover the formation of the Ba'th Party, so I read up on it to find out the relevent leaders and events I would able to capture. However, I also find out ideology, structures, and similar things which I find fascinating, and am able to understand, but which will do me little good. There is a lot out there to understand, especially in the case of history, and I may decide to do the Middle East course in my final year simply because I've already covered the majority of it (yes, yes, so I wouldn't be able to write an essay, but I know the themes).

Not that that explains why I spent time reading about the history of the Troubles in Northern Island, the planned London Overground or the history of the fictional Final Fantasy VII Turks. I'm all too easily distracted when it comes to knowledge.

I got my Tesco Clubcard today. Delivered within a week, so they claim. I sent off for one in mid-July.

We're going to Slough tommorrow (Thursday) apparently. I'm not expecting a vibrant metropolis, but it is my father's hometown. I also, really, need to step up on the job front. Time feels compressed in these last few days before the freshers are released into the world of Holloway. I don't even have time for much nostalgia, or at least, not this week.

Get well, Richard Hammond.
